Empowering Kenyan Youth for a Brighter Future
Message from the Director
Dear Supporters,
I am delighted to share with you the latest news and updates from Ujima Foundation. Your steadfast support enables us to make a real difference in the lives of young individuals like Merceline Awuor Haya, whose inspiring journey underscores the impact of our programs.
Recent Achievements
„Our newest venture, Ujima Food Garden, is not just a restaurant—it's a training ground for future leaders in the hospitality industry."
Grand Opening of Ujima Food Garden: In December 2023, we proudly inaugurated Ujima Food Garden, our latest venture aimed at providing unique on-the-job training opportunities for our students. This restaurant, located in Kisumu, is operated mainly by our dedicated students, offering them practical experience in the hospitality industry.
Technical Training at Ujima Food Garden: Our students have been enthusiastically participating in technical training sessions at Ujima Food Garden, honing their skills in restaurant management, culinary arts, and customer service. These hands-on experiences are essential for preparing them for successful careers in the hospitality sector.
Special Events at Ujima Food Garden: Our restaurant has been buzzing with excitement during special events such as Valentine's Dinner and Mongolian Lunch. These occasions not only showcase the culinary talents of our students but also provide valuable opportunities for them to interact with patrons and gain confidence in their abilities.
Come Back Sessions: Every Wednesday, students currently on attachment in various workplaces gather at Ujima for our "Come Back Sessions." Here, they share their experiences, support one another, and receive encouragement as they navigate the challenges of the workplace. These sessions foster a sense of community and solidarity among our students.
Beneficiary Story: Merceline Awuor Haya
"Ujima provided me with more than just skills—it gave me a community and a sense of purpose."
Merceline's journey with Ujima began with a simple conversation with Madam Ann Ombewa, who recognized her potential and encouraged her to explore opportunities at our foundation. With determination and support from her sister, Merceline embarked on a journey of personal and professional growth at Ujima.
During her time with us, Merceline not only acquired essential skills for a career in hospitality but also found a supportive community that nurtured her confidence and positivity. Today, she is employed as a hostess/waitress, making a living while also contributing to creating memorable experiences for guests at Ujima Food Garden.
